Rev up for a full weekend of car shows

It’s a full weekend of horsepower and chrome, with about a dozen car shows on the calendar. Here are two bigger ones; for more shows, go to desertcrui­sers.com.

Mesa

About 200 vehicles are expected at the Apache Wells Homeowners Associatio­n’s third annual Classic Car Show on Saturday, March 22. A portion of the proceeds will go to Dresses for Orphans, which provides specially made dresses and shirts for children worldwide.

In addition to trophies awarded in more than 20 classes, there will be food and merchandis­e for sale, cash prizes, live music by Higher Power, tunes by DJ Greg, a stilt walker, crafters, a beer garden and more. Entrants receive a T-shirt, dash plaques and goodie bag.

Surprise

Desert Sands Corvette and Sands Chevrolet hope to raise $40,000 for Phoenix Children’s Hospital at the All American Car Show on Sunday, March 23.

Up to 300 American vehicles are expected at the fifth annual show. It raised $30,175 last year and $20,000 the year before.

Trophies or plaques will be given in 33 categories. A DJ will spin music; food, drink and merchandis­e will be for sale. Raffle prizes include two four-day Caribbean cruises, and there will be a 50/50 raffle.
