Burton, Osmond "Ozzie" Alexander

80, of Prescott, Arizona passed away on April 15th 2014. "Ozzie" was born on February 20, 1934 at The Stork’s Nest in Tucson, Arizona to the late Mattie Lee and Osmond Alexander Burton. He attended North High School in Phoenix Arizona where he was student body president. He graduated from The University of Arizona with a degree in Law in 1958. Married to Virginia Lee Richards in 1957, he moved to Scottsdale where he began his law practice and eventually became Scottsdale’s first city attorney. He implemente­d a very restrictiv­e sign ordinance in 1965 and laid the foundation for the Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt Project. He was instrument­al in the city’s negotiatio­n with Kemper Marley to annex portions of his land north of Shea Blvd, including the Scottsdale Airpark. He was a proud member of the Scottsdale Charros, served on the board of the YMCA and was elected to the Scottsdale School board in 1969 as a write-in candidate. He is survived by his brother Lee H. Burton, sisters Nancy Kinerk, Margaret Polson, son Lee W. Burton, daughters Susan Cook and Bethanne Outcalt and grandchild­ren, Katie, Allie and Mary Outcalt and Rachel and Daniel Cook. A memorial service will be held Saturday May 10th 2014 at Mountain View Presbyteri­an Church in Scottsdale, Arizona at 10am. 8050 East Mountain View Rd Scottsdale, Arizona 85260.
