MacKenzie shares lead with Svoboda in the McGladrey
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Will MacKenzie made a hole in one and finished with a birdie for a 5-under 65 and a share of the lead Saturday with Andrew Svoboda in the McGladrey Classic.
Svoboda overcame a double bogey for a 66 and will have his best chance for his first PGA Tour win.
They were at 12-under 198, though the final round at Sea Island still has the trappings of a shootout.
Russell Henley, the 36-hole leader, made only one big mistake in the third round, and it cost him. He hit his approach into the water on the par-5 15th for a bogey. Henley had a 68 and was 1 shot behind.
Stewart Cink shot a 63 and was among those just 3 shots behind. Nine players were within 4 of the lead.
LPGA Tour
HAINAN ISLAND, China — American Jessica Korda rebounded from an opening double bogey for a share of the second-round lead in the Blue Bay LPGA.
Korda made seven birdies in a 14hole stretch — the last three on Nos. 1416 — and shot a 5-under 67 to match South Africa’s Lee-Anne Pace at 11-under 133 at Jian Lake Blue Bay. Pace had seven birdies and a bogey in a 66. Chella Choi was 10 under after a 66.
Champions Tour
SAN ANTONIO — Marco Dawson opened with four birdies in the first six holes on the way to a 5-under 67 for a 1-stroke lead after two rounds of the Champions Tour’s AT&T Championship, while Bernhard Langer moved closer to clinching the Charles Schwab Cup, even before next week’s seasonending championship in Scottsdale.
Dawson, who’s only PGA Tour-affiliated victory came at the Web.com Tour’s LaSalle Bank Open in 2002, moved to 12 under, a shot ahead of Woody Austin (65).
