Ruth L. Schuldt, 93, passed away on October 18, 2014 at her daughter’s home in Glendale, AZ. She was born on October 9, 1921, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Walter R. and Martha (Ause) Kettleson and later adopted by William E. and Margaret M. Cowling. She attended Central High School in Sioux City and was active in Rainbow Girls, serving as a Worthy Advisor and receiving the Grand Cross of Color. Ruth then attended Morningsid­e College in Sioux City, IA and graduated from the University of South Dakota, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She was sent by USO Traveler’s Aide to Phoenix, AZ for service during WWII. After the war, she married returning serviceman John F. Schuldt and they settled in Arizona. She attended Arizona State University, receiving a degree in library science, and worked and retired as a librarian for the City of Scottsdale. She enjoyed raising her four children through numerous moves throughout Arizona and cherished family vacations and holiday gatherings. Ruth was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Sun City and used her library experience as a volunteer during her retirement. She was predecease­d by her parents, sister Mary Culbert, and husband John F. Schuldt, Sr. Ruth is survived by her children, Janine Dunn (Douglas), Julie Welch, Mary Lloyd (Tom), John F. Schuldt, Jr. (Christine); grandchild­ren Erin Raney (Kip), Ian Dunn, Ainsley Lloyd, Matthew Welch, Caylor, Elle, Trey, Caitlin and Quinn Schuldt; great granddaugh­ters Taylor and Lauren Raney and seven nieces and nephews and their families. The family wishes to express our thanks and appreciati­on to all the staff and caregivers from Hospice of the Valley for their extraordin­ary care and compassion during her final journey. Private services will be held at a later date. aged 53, passed away peacefully in hospice after a long illness on October 20, 2014. He was born on April 4, 1961 in Manistique, Michigan to Raymond and Carol Thorstenso­n, both of whom preceded him in death. Scott served as a medic in the US Army and traveled extensivel­y throughout the United States, living in South Dakota, Iowa, New York, Wyoming, and finally Arizona. He was especially blessed by his older brother Eric of Phoenix, Arizona, where he lived and was cared for during many of his last years. He loved all animals (but especially cats), the Green Bay Packers, and books. He had an intelligen­t mind and an adventurou­s spirit; among his fondest memories was his time in Wyoming amidst the mountains and trees. In his final days, Scott returned to his faith in the Lord; we believe that he is now free of pain and suffering and in Heaven, where we trust we will meet him again. He will be greatly missed. Surviving him are siblings Kirk Austin, Shari Polk, Ray Collins, Susan Zakraysek, Eric Thorstenso­n, Kristin Miller, Milton and Steve Benson; his stepmother Julienne Thorstenso­n; maternal aunts Janet Chenowith, Linda Peterson, and Maggie Rooney; paternal uncle Don McKnelly; paternal aunt Veronica Thorstenso­n; and many beloved cousins. Scott is also survived by nephew Max Miller and nieces Laura Brennan and Erin Zakraysek. He was preceded in death by sister Kim Benson. No services are planned at this time. 78 of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014. He was born July 15, 1936 in Jacksonvil­le, IL to Joseph and Wilma Towers. He moved to Gold Canyon, AZ in 1995 after 39 years working as a funeral director for Kenny Brothers in Chicagolan­d. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, and four children: Dr. Joseph (Mary) Towers of Naperville, Carine (Dr. Jeffrey) Girardin of Scottsdale, AZ, Thomas (Jennifer) Towers of Granger, IN, and Ann (Patrick) Leavy of Phoenix, AZ. Ryan, Breanne, Bethany Towers of Naperville, IL, Ben, Mia, Joe, Charlotte, Henry, and Linus Towers of Granger IN, and Margaret and Michael Girardin of Scottsdale, AZ are his eleven grandchild­ren. He is also survived by his siblings Richard (Ellender) Towers of Jacksonvil­le, IL and Peggy (Donald) May of Crofton, MD. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church 10755 North 124th Street, Scottsdale, AZ at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 1, 2014. Inurnment will be Monday, November 3, 2014 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery 23015 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ at 9:00 A.M.
