DeWit to serve as Trump national campaign official
PHILADELPHIA — State Treasurer Jeff DeWit, a Donald Trump loyalist and surrogate, has been tapped to serve as the chief operating officer for Trump’s national campaign.
DeWit previously was Arizona campaign chairman for Trump, who handily won Arizona’s March 22 Republican presidential preference election.
“As one of the first public officials to endorse Mr. Trump, I am honored to be able to serve his presidential campaign and help him win in November,” DeWit said in a written statement distributed by the Trump campaign. “There is no question that he will make America great again.”
The Trump campaign made the announcement early Wednesday, the third day of the Democratic National Convention. Trump accepted the 2016 presidential nomination last week in Cleveland; Hillary Clinton will accept her party’s nomination tonight.
DeWit “will focus on the operational aspects of the campaign including budgetary and logistical matters,” the Trump campaign said of his new role. “He will create operational efficiencies as the campaign moves into the general election phase.”
