Police: Man breaks into ex-home to shower

- JEROD MACDONALD-EVOY

The man was drunk and had apparently been fighting with his friend. An officer thought it best to just take the man home, to the address listed on his license.

But, it was no longer his home. Convinced it was, the man broke in and took a shower.

The same officer who dropped the man off at the home arrested him hours later after a woman called police to report a stranger showering in her bathroom. He was also screaming, she said.

Scott Alan Lamarsh, 49, was arrested Monday and booked on suspicion of criminal trespass, criminal damage, criminal nuisance and disorderly conduct.

Lamarsh’s ordeal began on late Sunday evening. Scottsdale police responded to a call reporting someone yelling in a parking lot, according to a police report.

Police arrived to find a man named Albert Ramirez with a cut above his left eye. Ramirez said that his friend, Lamarsh, had been drinking throughout the day and “just went nuts” on him, according to the report.

Police found an inebriated Lamarsh attempting to climb up the stairs. He then slid down the stair “on his butt,” the report says.

Lamarsh denied fighting his friend but told officers he also could not remember the past 20 minutes. He also had swelling around his left eye as well as blood on his hands, according to the report.

Lamarsh told police that the address on his driver’s license was current. An officer drove him there and dropped him off. The officer saw Lamarsh struggle with a locked door, the report says, but Lamarsh waved off the officer when asked if he needed help.

At 1:21 a.m. Monday, the officer who dropped Lamarsh off responded to a burglary call at the same residence. Officers noticed the front door had been kicked in and Lamarsh’s clothes were strewn across the house.

When police shouted for Lamarsh to show himself, he appeared, hands raised, wet and wearing only a towel.

The 39-year-old woman who lived there had barricaded herself and her two daughters, ages 8 and 12, in a back bedroom, the report stated.

That woman told officers that Lamarsh was screaming the entire time he was in the shower, according to the homeowner in the report. When asked about this, Lamarsh told police it was because “he had a lot going on in his head.”

Lamarsh told officers he thought he had kicked down the door to enter.

“I may have, yeah,” he said, according to the report. “I think I may be in trouble for this one.”
