Salem, Little Rock are best dog friends

Pair has tragic past but are now happy to be together

-

It was a situation that would lead only to tragedy: several dogs kept in tiny cages without water or food and left unattended in the backyard by a neglectful owner. The Arizona Humane Society’s animal rescuers arrived just in time and saved dozens of dogs, including Salem and Little Rock, from what could’ve been a heartbreaking fate. The dogs have spent much of their lives missing the companionship they desperately crave. But should a patient and loving owner step forward, it could be the best thing that ever happened to the diffident Dachshund mixes.

The two are extremely bonded, and 4-year-old Salem has no idea what waking up would be like without Little Rock by her side. The two are inseparable and life partners, so they must remain together in their new home. Though young, Salem and Little Rock are quiet, calm and mature. Instead of fun and games, they’d rather sit on a warm lap. With synchronized tail wags, the dogs maintain a slow pace and meander down the sidewalk on morning strolls through the neighborhood. Afterward they happily curl up at your feet or on a dog bed.

Meet Little Rock and Salem at noon Monday at the Arizona Humane Society’s Campus for Compassion, 1521 W. Dobbins Road in Phoenix. Their adoption fee together is $250 and includes their spay and neuter surgery and vaccinations. For more information call 602-997-7585 and ask for animal numbers A546279-80.
