Q:
Perfect. Is there anything in the rule book this year that perhaps (you're) most interested in as to how it may affect a game? There are a lot of changes, aren’t there? A: Yeah, there were some changes. The 30second instant replay rule might give me a little anxiety because I know that’s a tough process for everybody behind the scenes. I’ve been the guy on the phone calling (Red Sox manager) John Farrell for the last four years. I know how hard that video department is working, so I know that it takes time. To do it in 30 seconds, it might leave us hanging. It’s giving me a little bit of anxiety already. Q: Are you reading any interesting books at the moment or has baseball basically consumed your life this spring? A: Right now on my desk I have a book about (former organized crime boss) Whitey Bulger that I want to get to and was given to me by the traveling secretary of (the) Boston (Red Sox). And I have a book about John Wooden that I’m trying to get to as well. Q: Everybody needs an outlet. What do you do to get away from the game for a little while? Kirk Gibson used to mountain bike with Alan Trammell when they were here. Every Diamondbacks manager that’s come through here had their own little thing. What is your escape? Or do you need one? A: I think everybody needs some sort of outlet. You know, I love to spend time with my family and my children but unfortunately in this game, you’re alone. So when they’re not around, I just put a basketball hoop up at my house I probably go out and shoot around for about half an hour, 30 minutes before I come to the ballpark. I just go shoot around and just get away from everything and take my mind off things for the moment. Q: Did you play any college basketball? A: No, but I wanted to.
