PHOENIX - A limo driver was shot by his passenger at the end of his ride in west Phoenix early Sunday morning, authorities said.

At about 1 a.m., police responded to reports of a shooting near 69th Avenue and Van Buren Street, said Sgt. Alan Pfohl, a Phoenix police spokesman.

A man who had hired a limo for the evening had refused to pay the driver for the time that went beyond the original contract, he said.

When the driver got out of the limo to confront the passenger in his front yard, the suspect fired a gun several times in a downward direction, Pfohl said.

The driver was shot twice in the legs, he said.

Upon arrival, the suspect still had the gun in his hands and was arrested without incident, Pfohl said.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No other details were immediately available.

Police seek man who impersonated officer

TUCSON - Arizona officials are searching for a suspected police impersonator who handcuffed a woman during a fake traffic stop.

The woman told the Tucson Police Department that a man claiming to be an officer handcuffed her to the back seat of his car Friday. The man later released her.

Investigators say they have not found evidence that the man is a law-enforcement officer.

The woman who was handcuffed described the suspect as a tall, tanskinned male in his 20s or 30s. Officials say he was last seen driving a bronze or gold sedan with red and blue lights mounted on the dashboard. — Staff and wire reports
