TRUMP TRAVEL BAN FACES ANOTHER DAY IN COURT
U.S. Circuit Judge Richard Paez on Monday delivered what may be the most succinct summary of the three-month legal battle over President Trump’s attempts to temporarily suspend travel from six majority-Muslim countries.
“There is no case like this, is there?” Paez said.
The hearing in Seattle before a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit featured a wide-ranging debate over a president’s powers to manage the nation’s immigration system and the ability of courts to explore the motivations behind presidential actions.
The panel’s ruling should be finalized in the coming weeks and could propel the case to the Supreme Court, which would ultimately decide the fate of Trump’s controversial travel ban.
DECEASED PLEDGE’S FAMILY TO SUE PENN STATE, FRATERNITY
The father of a Penn State pledge who died following a night of alleged hazing and drinking says members of Beta Theta Pi fraternity treated his son like “roadkill,” adding that the family plans to sue the school, the fra- ternity and its members.
Jim and Evelyn Piazza appeared on multiple morning shows Monday in their drive to hold accountable those responsible for the loss of their son, Timothy, who died Feb. 4.
“It was horrific,” said Jim Piazza, speaking on NBC’s Today show about his son’s death. “This wasn’t boys being boys. This was men who intended to force-feed lethal amounts of alcohol into other young men. And what happened throughout the night was just careless disregard for human life.”
U.S. CAPITOL INSTALLS DUCK RAMPS AT REFLECTING POOL
Save the baby ducks! That’s what was on the mind of the Architect of the Capitol when duck ramps were installed at the U.S. Capitol’s reflecting pool on Monday.
The reflecting pool is, as the AOC noted in a blog post, a popular destination for humans and ducks alike. But ducklings faced an obstacle if they want to enjoy the water: They had to get over a limestone curb to get into and out of the water.
The AOC worked with the animal rescue service City Wildlife on designs that eventually led to the new ramps.
