A GRAND VIEW
from miles above
NASA has released an incredible photo of the Grand Canyon taken from a camera controlled by students aboard the International Space Station.
The photo was taken from low-Earth orbit on April 3 by the Sally Ride EarthKAM, a Nikon digital camera named after the first American woman in space and attached to a window on the space station.
Working through their teachers, students can request images of specific locations on Earth during the camera’s four scheduled missions each year. They can request pictures of the Earth’s coasts, mountain ranges or other geological features.
Think you can top this image? The next EarthKAM mission begins in fall 2017. Teachers can get information on how to get their students involved at the EarthKAM website.
