ASU’s Ewen wins hammer throw title at NCAAs

Arizona State junior Maggie Ewen won the NCAA hammer throw Thursday, setting an NCAA record with her third throw. Ewen took the lead in Eugene, Ore., on her second throw after slipping on her first. Then on her third, she threw 240 feet, 7 inches, breaking a 10-year-old NCAA record (239-4). She passed on her remaining attempts. Northern Arizona's Brooke Andersen threw 225-1 on her final attempt for second place.

Phoenix SC del Sol U-15 boys headed to NPL finals

Phoenix SC del Sol’s under-15 boys soccer team won its region and will be heading to the US Club Soccer National Premier League Finals at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. Teams play several group games before going to knock-out rounds to determine the NPL national champion for every age group available. The finals, one of the most prestigiou­s championsh­ips in the country, will be held from July 13 to 17.

England, Venezuela reach Under-20 World Cup final

SEOUL, South Korea England and Venezuela both came from behind Thursday, and both advanced to the Under-20 World Cup final.

The English team got a pair of goals from Dominic Solanke in a 3-1 win over Italy in Jeonju. Venezuela goalkeeper Wuilker Farinez made the key save in a shootout to help his team beat Uruguay 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Daejeon.

NBA Finals Game 3 ratings up 22 percent from last year

CLEVELAND - Game 3 of the NBA Finals drew 20.5 million viewers on ABC, an increase of 22 percent from last season.

Golden State’s 118-113 victory over Cleveland was the closest game of the series and the most-watched Game 3 ever on ABC, according to Nielsen numbers announced Thursday.
