Drogba goal rescues point for Phoenix Rising FC

Didier Drogba scored in stoppage time to give Phoenix Rising FC a point following a 1-1 tie with Orange County SC on Saturday night in Irvine, Calif.

Phoenix Rising FC returns to Arizona on July 15 to take on Colorado Springs Switchback­s FC. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Louise Solheim, wife of late Ping founder, dies at 99

Louise Solheim, the wife of late Ping golf equipment founder Karsten Solheim, has died. She was 99.

Ping said she died Friday. The company didn’t give a cause of death.

Louise Solheim played a prominent role in the creation of PING and the Solheim Cup, a biennial women's match-play tournament played between Europe and the U.S. She is also credited with naming PING’s Anser putter.

Karsten Solheim died in 2000.

Calmejane grits teeth to win Stage 8 of Tour

STATION DES ROUSSES, France - Speeding away on a small mountain road more suited to goats than riders, Lilian Calmejane has won Stage 8 to the Rousses ski station in the Jura Massif for his first victory in his first Tour de France.

Tour leader Chris Froome finished in a group further back, retaining the overall race lead and its yellow jersey ahead of a second, far harder day of climbing, again in the Jura mountains, on Sunday.

Bottas beats Vettel to take pole position for Austrian GP

SPIELBERG, Austria - Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas beat Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel to take pole position for the Austrian Grand Prix on Saturday. Lewis Hamilton qualified in third place but will start from eighth because of a grid penalty. Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen moves up from fourth to third.

Will Power wins Iowa Speedway pole, his 4th pole of season

NEWTON, Iowa - Will Power won the pole for Sunday’s IndyCar race at Iowa Speedway. This is his fourth pole of the season. Power was fastest in Saturday’s single-car, two-lap runs on the oval. J.R. Hildebrand qualified second, followed by Helio Castroneve­s, Ed Carpenter and Indianapol­is 500 winner Takuma Sato.

Sun overcomes 22-point deficit to beat Mystics 96-92

Jonquel Jones scored 22 points, Alyssa Thomas hit the go-ahead jumper with 36 seconds and the Connecticu­t Sun beat the Washington Mystics. Breanna Stewart had 26 points as the Seattle Storm beat the Los Angeles Sparks. Courtney Vandersloo­t scored a seasonhigh 26 points as Chicago got its first home win this season.
