Your eyes don’t lie, but they look smaller as you age

-

Today’s question: I have been noticing something that perhaps you can answer. I found a link that shows about 30 different Bond girls (as in 007 Bond) and how they have aged. The one consistent change I have noticed most is the eyes. They appear to get smaller through the years. This isn’t only with women. I have seen it on other comparison articles that included men.

Is this correct or should I try not to worry about it?

You are right on both counts: Your observation about eyes is correct and you should try not to worry about it.

Actually, your eyes don’t really get smaller, but all the stuff around them does.

As you get older, your skull starts to shrink. That sounds kind of alarming, but it’s just what happens. Your facial bones get smaller and that makes your eyes to sort of appear to sink back a little bit.

Also, as you get older, you probably are going to lose some of the fat on your face, especially around your eyes.

This, again, has the effect of making your eyes look smaller.

And the tendons at the edge of your eyelids start to stretch out a bit and weaken, which makes your eyes look a bit droopy.

Boy, this all makes it sound like you’re about to shrivel up and blow away, doesn’t it? Don’t let it get you down. It’s perfectly natural. To me, you’re just as beautiful as ever.

Of course, I’m just saying that because I have no idea what you look like, but I’m sure you are lovely in your own way.
