So fitting for the occasion; For those with the good fortune to know Mari, she embodied warmth and sunshine. She’ll be lovingly remembered as a kind and gracious lady, positive and uplifting, smart, feisty and fun. Mari’s love for life, and those in it, was immeasurable. She was an awesome mom to her son, Alexander, and the beloved wife and best friend to Keith, her husband of 26 years. Born April 23, 1965 to loving parents Milagros (Berrios) Ortega and Narciso Ortega, Mari grew up with her brothers, Noby and Jose, in Stanford, Connecticut; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and finally, Norwood, Massachusetts. As a young lady, she attended Boston College, studying biology, and was employed for a time by American Airlines. Later, a career opportunity took her to Killeen, Texas, where she met and married Keith, then a U.S. Army captain. Together, they shared a marvelous lifeadventure, living abroad and all across this beautiful country. These were wonderful years for the family, and Mari cherished every minute of being Alexander’s mom. Mari very much enjoyed travel and having new lifeexperiences. She loved meeting and befriending people, wherever the journey led. Her beautiful, warm, and genuine smile was her calling card, and it was a true reflection of her inner self. The great times were plentiful, and the occasional trying times were tempered by Mari’s grace, positive outlook, and beautiful spirit. She was a remarkable person and a treasured gift to those
