Brooke Nuneviller returns from busy summer to lead Corona del Sol.

Nuneviller kept busy over summer

between international play and competition in the Valley, she expects her latest experience playing overseas to bring her game into a new tier at the high school level.

“The international game is really really fast,” Nuneviller said. “We had to adjust to speed of the game and the serves and the way they swing. At this level, you can definitely translate that speed, and that will help me improve with high school season. We had to learn to adjust really quickly to each team. Every single day it was a different team with different scouting reports.”

Corona del Sol graduated six seniors last year, which means Nuneviller will be stepping into a new role on a predominantly young team. It won’t be an easy feat for Nuneviller to surpass or even replicate her junior year success, but she hopes another busy offseason will go a long way in the Aztecs’ title defense.

“Brooke has already been a leader and a captain, so that won’t change things very much,” Maxfield said. “We will really look to her to mentor the younger players.”

Nuneviller said she has fully embraced playing year-round volleyball at the highest level possible.

“The grind is definitely enjoyable but it’s really hard at the same time,” she said. “I love volleyball, it’s one of the things I feel most passionately about. I think the grind is advancing to the next level. You have to love process of anything.”
