Teddy is very loving but he won’t give bear-hugs
Aloof Chow Chow thinks he is top dog — and he is
Teddy was a former stray who was hit by a car and rescued by the Arizona Humane Society’s Emergency Animal Medical Technicians back in March 2016. It’s taken more than a year of healing and several complicated surgeries to repair his once badly broken back leg — but he boy does he strut like a lion now!
The Chow Chow breed originated more than 2,000 years ago in ancient China, but Teddy hasn’t seem to have forgotten the royal nobility his ancient ancestors once belonged to.
In fact, the purebred is a bit full of himself and tends to think he’s top dog. An experienced owner who’s familiar with the breed is needed to convince this proud and sometimes moody canine otherwise.
Don’t be offended if Teddy is initially aloof. That’s to be expected with a Chow. It takes time to earn their trust. Teddy bonds closely with only a few select people, but that bond is long-lasting.
He won’t forget if you don’t respect his personal space so don’t ever tease him. It’s unlikely that he will cuddle with you on the couch, but he’d enjoy a game of fetch in the yard.
Like most Chows, Teddy is a bit controlling. He tends to be more of a homebody type and needs a consistent, predictable environment to feel at ease and relax. It would also be best if he was your only pet.
Teddy’s adoption fee has been waived in exchange for a good home. He has already been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
