FIVE QUESTIONS... WITH LARRY FITZGERALD
Each week, azcentral sports NFL writer Bob McManaman spotlights a member of the Cardinals for a series of onthe-spot, off-beat questions. Today: Snippets from Thursday’s bull session with wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who is entering his 14th NFL season. Question: Does it feel like 14 years? Answer: Um, you’ll have to ask me next week. I haven’t been hit in a while. I feel good right now. I’ll probably feel better than you, though. Q: Do you still get butterflies? A: Oh yeah. Oh yeah. I get butterflies in preseason games. I like it because it makes me know that this is something I’m still passionate about. I love to do it and something I take a lot of pride in. So if I ever lost a butterfly, I don’t think that would be a good thing. Q: Patrick Peterson said he’s too confident to ever get butterflies. What do you think about that? A: Patrick’s cut from a different cloth. He’s not all human. The rest of us mortals, we get butterflies. Q: What do you think about David Johnson? A: I think he’s the best player in the National Football League. I think for the next 17 weeks and hopefully moving forward, everybody that we play will have to feel his wrath. Q: How do you feel about maybe leading the league again in receptions? A: I never set my goal to lead the league in receptions. If the ball comes my way, I’m going to do everything I can to catch it. We have a lot of guys who are capable of making plays. When my number’s called, I’m going to try to do what I’ve done the last 13 years and make my plays. That’s not going to change. Q: Where does Matthew Stafford stack up among active quarterbacks, in your opinion? A: Well, I’m not a quarterback evaluator but for someone to get $100 million guaranteed you’ve got to be pretty damn good so that pretty much sums it up for me.
