D-Backs get superstitious during their winning streak

- SARAH MCLELLAN

The same song – “It’s A Vibe” by 2 Chainz – plays incessantly in the Diamondbacks clubhouse, pumping through the speakers 20, 25 times before a game. And nobody can turn it off. “We keep winning with that song,” outfielder David Peralta said. “So I’m not going to get sick about that.”

Every game ending in a win hasn’t been the only constant during the Diamondbacks’ historic streak.

Part of their preparation has also stayed the same during a franchise-record 13-game run.

“We’re just creatures of habit,” manager Torey Lovullo said.

Aside from the playlist, which also includes “Everyday We Lit” by YFN Lucci and “Turn Up On The Weekend” by Branchez and Big Wet, Peralta warms up, reports to the hot tub and stretches at a specific time. He also wears the same pair of underwear – “I clean it every day,” he said – and uses certain socks and particular cleats. Catcher Chris Herrmann said reliever Archie Bradley, who first played “It’s A Vibe” at the outset of the win streak, has been wearing the same pair of sliders to and from the ballpark.

“It’s been fun,” Herrmann said. “You hear people signing the same songs over and over again. Everybody gets into it. … It’s just the little things like that that are making it a lot of fun.”

Peralta’s routine is what he does every day, regardless of the outcome of the previous game. Sticking to a plan doesn’t just add to the enjoyment of an impressive stretch like the one the Diamondbacks have enjoyed; it helps put the game in perspective throughout the season.

“You gotta believe in something,” Peralta said. “Particularly myself. Let’s say if I’m wearing the same shoes every day and I believe those shoes are going to get me a good season, I’m going to do it.”

Delgado setback

Reliever Randall Delgado, out since mid-July with inflammation in his right elbow, had a setback after making a rehabilitation appearance Wednesday and received an MRI on Friday, Lovullo said.

“He woke up (Thursday) and didn’t feel perfect,” Lovullo said. “He was a little stiff.”

Lovullo said the stiffness is in the same area as the discomfort Delgado felt originally in July.

Lovullo said he would consult with team physicians regarding the MRI before determining a course of action for Delgado.

Delgado is 1-2 with 3.59 ERA in 26 appearances for the Diamondbacks this season.
