Suns’ Williams to miss at least half of season

- SCOTT BORDOW

Suns center Alan Williams will miss at least half the season – maybe more – with a torn meniscus, General Manager Ryan McDonough said Monday at Suns media day.

Williams had surgery on Monday morning with Dr. Tom Carter, McDonough said.

It was reported that Williams partially tore his meniscus after landing on a teammate’s foot during a workout.

Suns rookie guard Davon Reed will miss four to six months after tearing his meniscus in August.

The Suns re-signed Williams to a three-year deal worth $17 million in July.

During one stretch last season, the 6-8 center – a Phoenix native – posted six double-doubles in seven games. In 24 games after the All-Star break, he averaged 11.4 points and 9.1 rebounds in just 22.6 minutes.

Suns extend forward Warren

The Suns have agreed on a four-year contract extension with small forward T.J. Warren, McDonough said.

The contract, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, is worth $50 million over four years.

McDonough said the deal will start in the 2018-2019 season.

Len signs qualifying offer

The Suns signed center Alex Len to a one-year, $4.2 million qualifying offer.

Len, the fifth overall pick in the 2013 draft, averaged 8.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game last season.
