‘Obamacare’ is a hurdle to bipartisanship
John McCain has totally lost his ability to think clearly. Yes, it would be better if we could get bipartisian support for health-care reform, but tell me Mr. McCain, which Democrat is going to agree to repealing Obamacare?
The current political climate totally eliminates any cooperation.
The only answer is to repeal and replace and make adjustments in the future as needed.

Let’s put opioids in the service of the criminal-justice system
I think a lot of people are missing the obvious in the discussion about drugs used for execution.
We have hundreds of people dying from overdoses of opioids, and they seem to enjoy taking the drugs.
Why not execute the inmates sentenced to death with an overdose of opioids? — Doug Larson, Tonopah
A new refrain will be heard rising across United States of America
There will be a day when we will chant, “Lock him up!” “Lock him up!” “Lock him up!”

John McCain, you are failing to represent Arizona Republicans
The purpose of this letter is written in the hopes that Sen. John McCain will respond to his constituents regarding health care.
Senator, you are not representing your voting Republicans, your party, and you are violating the U.S. Constitution by not representing the people of your state.
Please familiarize yourself with the first few articles of the Constitution. In addition, the governor and your friend Sen. Graham supported this latest health-care legislation.
I don’t want to believe your ego and self interests supersede good judgment, resulting in fellow Arizonans left with extremely high premiums and deductibles.
Your decision simply does not represent the majority of people in your state.
— James Schmidt, Surprise
Protest — at the very center of America — is our birthright
To Trump and his supporters: Wake up! America is great because of protesters. Think Cesar Chavez, Civil Rights, anti-Vietnam, industrial worker unions, Women’s Right to Vote, American Revolution.
Need I go on to make my point that we are who we are because of protesters!

Arizona is cheap; it doesn’t want to pay for better schools
In response to Steve Schosser’s letter “You get what you pay for. Arizona doesn’t want to pay for anything”:
I want to voice my agreement. The elected officials and our governor can’t seem to get their head around the idea that poor schools do not attract business.
Our state has a reputation for not spending money on education. Unless we make changes in the next election, it will only get worse. Stop worrying about your taxes and create schools we can be proud of. — Marcia Feinstein, Scottsdale
Let’s start saying no to that glass of water at the restaurant
In previous travel, I saw a sign in a restaurant that said, “Help us save water. We are doing our part by serving water only when requested. Please let your server know if you want water.”
If all restaurants did this it would save millions of gallons of water and the businesses would not have to wash as many glasses. This would lead to lower water bills, reduced use of dishwashers and soap.
A win-win for everyone.
