Cubs’ Bryant remains out with a sore shoulder

-

CINCINNATI – Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant is day to day with a sore left shoulder.

Bryant was out of Chicago’s starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Reds, the second straight start he missed, but didn’t expect to be out much longer.

“It’ll be no longer than a day or two,” said Bryant, who is hitting .280 with nine home runs and 36 RBIs in 66 games.

Bryant wasn’t the only missing Cub. Right-hander Tyler Chatwood, the scheduled starter, left the club Sunday morning when his wife went into labor. Left-hander Mike Montgomery was starting in his place.

The Cubs optioned righty Luke Farrell to Triple-A Iowa and placed lefty Rob Zastryzny on the 10-day disabled list. Zastryzny left Saturday’s game with tightness in his left side. Righties Cory Mazzoni and Justin Hancock were recalled from Iowa.

Braves place closer Vizcaino on DL with sore right shoulder: The Atlanta Braves have placed closer Arodys Vizcaino on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

The decision on Vizcaino was made before Sunday’s game against Baltimore after the right-hander had been unavailable to pitch in the first two games of the series due to shoulder soreness. The move was made retroactive to Thursday.

Vizcaino is 2-2 with a 1.82 ERA and 15 saves in 17 opportunities.

The Braves selected the contract of right-hander Evan Phillips from Triple-A Gwinnett, where he was 4-4 with a 2.31 ERA in 26 games, all in relief.

One option to close games while Vizcaino is on the DL is hard-throwing left-hander A.J. Minter, who has two saves.

Yankees C Sanchez likely to DL after pulling up on grounder: New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez is likely headed to the disabled after pulling up while running out a double-play grounder Sunday at Tampa Bay.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sanchez hurt his right groin/hip abductor and “it’s probably going to be a DL situation.”

Sanchez was injured in the 10th inning. He slowly walked back to the dugout and was replaced defensively by Austin Romine.
