If you think it’s hot now, you won’t like next week

Heat wave will push temperatures to 115 degrees next week

- Kimberly Rapanut

More heat is coming to the Valley, with the National Weather Service predicting a high of 114 degrees on Monday, followed by 115 degrees on Tuesday — and AccuWeather predicts a Tuesday high of 118.

Valley residents, be warned: It’s going to be even hotter next week.

According to the National Weather Service, a major heat wave is on its way to the Valley and is expected to raise next week’s temperatures as high as 115 degrees.

The first days of the week will be the worst, said Jaret Rogers, a senior meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Monday is expected to have a high of 114 degrees, and Tuesday is set to hit 115 degrees.

Northern Arizona will see a spike in its temperatures as well, Rogers said, as Flagstaff is scheduled to have a high of 86 degrees on Monday and Tuesday.

Don’t expect any relief from the Val- ley heat come sunset either.

According to Rogers, temperature lows for the week will hover between 82 to 92 degrees, with Tuesday’s low predicted to be 91 degrees.

The latter half of the week will bring slightly lower temperatures, with Wednesday’s 111-degree expected high, he said. Temperatures will remain in

the low 100s as the week progresses.

Along with a slight four-degree temperature drop on Wednesday, Rogers said an increase in moisture is slated to hit the Valley as well, cooling things off as the week wraps up.

As for storm predictions, the earlier half of next week is expected to be quiet in terms of monsoon activity, he said.

Because excessive heat can have harmful effects on the body, such as dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke, officials recommend staying hydrated and scheduling activities for the early morning or after sunset.
