Something fishy is taking place in the stock market

I have been watching the stock market with growing wonder and awe recently and, have noticed that certain stocks will rise and fall simply upon the rating of some financial gurus.

This makes me wonder if there is any insider trading going on in which some people are reaping huge profits simply by knowing when a stock is going to be listed as bad or good or when a price value is going to be set for a certain stock.

Some of these stocks have risen by as much as $25 and dropped by even more over the course of a few weeks only to settle at about the original prices.

Just think about 10,000 shares (or 100,000) jumping $10, or more, over the course of a little more than a week.

What are we supposed to call our women’s pro basketball team?

I’m confused as to the name of the women’s professional basketball team in Phoenix. Are they the Phoenix Mercury or the Phoenix Verizon?

The picture of a player in the Wednesday edition shows the player with the word “Verizon” broadly printed across the front of the uniform.

Could not see the word “Mercury” anywhere.

Makes sense that they would be the “Verizon,” then they could call up a play at anytime.

Trump has an endless supply, it seems, of exploding cigars

Who needs critics? What Trump accuses himself of is damning enough.

After the election, he said he was choosing the “best and brightest” to serve in his administration. Now he says he appointed the attorney general solely to repay a political favor.

He also says “flipping” should be illegal. Let’s see, that means if a person lies or clams up to protect himself or others from criminal prosecution, he or she should be prohibited by law from relenting and telling investigators the truth later. Go figure!

My ‘Republic’ was a conversation starter on the Latter-day Saints

I was at a homeowners association meeting last evening and got to talking with a neighbor from a block over about Phil Boas’ column, “The real reason we can’t say ‘Mormon’ anymore,” in

Opinion section on Wednesday.

This neighbor is Mormon. I am not. However I find the religion very interesting and this article served to enlighten me. So I asked him if he had seen the article. It turns out that he does not get

so I said I could hoof it over to his place with article in hand.

I had done some research on the Freemasons and had run across documentation that suggested while membership requires belief in a supreme being, it welcomes any and all religions!

My question to him was if a Mormon could be a Mason. Turns out, yup. I was also curious about the suggested similarity in some of the documentation between the Masonic rituals and structure and that of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Unfortunately, we were interrupted before that question could be explored. Maybe next time I see him.
