Mesa Gateway Airport getting more flights

- Scott Craven

Travelers using Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport will have three new flight options this winter.

Low-fare Allegiant Air will start new service between Phoenix-Mesa Gateway and St. George, Utah, in November, kicking off the route with an introductory $49 one-way fare.

In addition, Flair Air, a low-cost airline out of Canada, will begin flying nonstop between Gateway and two Canadian cities, Winnipeg and Edmonton.

Allegiant’s twice-weekly nonstop to St. George will deliver passengers to within an hour’s drive of Zion National Park, a popular tourist destination known for its rugged cliffs and canyons.

The service begins Nov. 9 and the $49 fare applies to a limited number of seats. A recent search on Allegiant’s website also revealed fares ranging from $64 to $109 one way, which does not include additional fees. Allegiant charges for everything from baggage to seat selection.

American Airlines offers service to St. George out of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The flights are operated by SkyWest Airlines.

Allegiant also announced that it’s starting twiceweekly service between Tucson and two destinations: Bellingham, Washington, and Provo, Utah. The Bellingham flights begin Nov. 15; service to Provo starts Nov. 16.

Flair will fly between Gateway and Edmonton four times a week starting Dec. 15. On Dec. 16, twiceweekly service to Winnipeg will begin.

Fares to Edmonton range from $159-$270 Canadian, about $122-$207 U.S., according to a check of Flair’s website.

Fares to Winnipeg are $217-$359 Canadian, roughly $166-$267 U.S. Prices do not include fees for such things as baggage, seat selection and printed boarding passes.
