PHOENIX – Mary Margaret Peebles, 85, entered into eternal rest August 20, 2018. Born to Frank and Lucille Morris on September 17, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri, where she lived until 1954. Mary graduated from the University of Missouri in 1953, receiving a BA degree in English Literature. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and after basic training, entered Naval Officers Training School in Newport, Rhode Island, where she received a commission as a general line officer in October 1954, and was assigned to the U.S. Naval Security Station, Washington, DC. There she met her future husband David Meade Peebles, who worked for the Washington Post for 30 years, retiring as Assistant Production Manager. David preceded her in death in 2003. She leaves four sons Robert, Frank (Sandra), Alan, and Steven (Patti), Bluefield, WV; two step-granddaugh­ters Amanda Whitlock, and Shelby Sanchez; greatgrand­daughter Isabella Sanchez; and sister-in-law Virginia Peebles, Rockville, MD. Visitation is from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday Aug. 29, 2018 at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix 85020, with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM. Requiem Mass at 10:00 AM Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018 at Mater Misericord­iae Mission, 1537 W. Monroe St., Phoenix 85007. Burial will follow at 12:30 PM at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek, Phoenix 85024. Arrangemen­ts by Hansen Mortuaries.
