In matters of court hearings, white males get the advantage

- Donn Stoltzfus, Chandler Don Mayeski, Scottsdale Ann Schweers, Fountain Hills M. Nollette, Mesa Jim Valenziano, Chandler

It is heartwarming that the Senate has affirmed that, as a white male, my testimony carries more credibility than that of any woman. In case of contradiction without direct corroboration, a woman’s memory shall be deemed faulty. There will be no consideration that my male memory may have been repressed. Is this a great country or what?

The lessons to learn from the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh

Among the many things we can take away from the vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court, there are two we should never forget:

1. You can perjure yourself and still be appointed to the highest court in the land.

2. Jeff Flake is a total fraud.

Ducey has failed Arizona’s public schools, and ICE needs reforming

In endorsing Doug Ducey for re-election you pointed to David Garcia’s opposition to ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and Ducey’s supposed good work on education.

ICE needs to be reconstructed! Agents trained to arrest hardened criminals should do just that. They’ve no business dealing with families fleeing unspeakable violence in search of legal asylum. Trump’s zero-tolerance policy’s purpose is to separate, cage and deter. Immigration is at the lowest it’s been in many decades. This is fear-mongering at its finest!

As a veteran, Garcia pledged to keep us safe by being smart — not cruel!

As to education, Ducey “stole” money designated for schools, to balance the general budget. A court said it must be repaid but he refused, forcing desperate teachers to accept only 75 percent of what was owed. Promises were broken!

Our state constitution guarantees full funding of education. Vote for David Garcia to make it happen.

As I remember my mom’s Packard, thank goodness for my low profile

I was paying very close attention to the proceedings during the Kavanaugh hearings, and as the days passed I felt a growing anxiety within my psyche as the news unfolded of yet another attempted assault by a teenager 30-plus years ago.

My entire teenage social life flashed before me. The awkward trysts in the back of Mom’s Packard, the admonitions of caution from our priest, the frustrations of boyhood with growing queue of all to willing participants began to mushroom guilt and fears about all that backseat pawing.

Statutes of limitations. “WAIT a minute, I’m a nobody out there. Relax.

It’s prove-it time for the GOP: Will they really repeal abortion law?

OK, GOP. You’re on the clock.

For over 30 years you have dangled the Roe v. Wade carrot in front of Christian voters saying “vote for me and I’ll help get conservative justices on the Supreme Court to overturn Roe.”

I don’t think you ever meant it. Oh, you want conservative justices, but not Roe. Conservative justices usually side with big business and that’s who your true constituency is. You just needed Christian voters to help get you elected.

Well, you’ve got your conservative majority on the court now. The promissory note has come due. If Roe is not overturned in the next two years the Republican Party will be exposed for the fraud it is.
