Mesa Mountain View senior quarterback Brandon Nunez is out for the rest of the season after being hospitalized with a blood clot in his left arm.

Nunez, a college prospect at 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, was coming off two of his best games, throwing for 217 yards and four touchdowns in a 53-3 win over Mesa Westwood and 329 yards and two TDs in a 42-21 loss to Mesa Red Mountain

“They tried to treat it with blood thinners,” Mountain View coach Mike Fell said. “That didn’t help. He’s going to have some type of surgery. It’s not determined when but he’s done for the year.”

Fell said he found out about Nunez’s situation on Monday when Nunez called and said his left arm “swelled twice the size of his right arm.”

“They’re not sure what it was and tried to treat it and said it was a blood clot,” Fell said.

Fell said that Nunez was having back issues during the fall break but was not sure if that is related.

Jersey retired

Goodyear Millennium last week retired Detroit Lions linebacker Marquis Flowers’ No. 2 Millennium jersey during a ceremony.

“Having that type of alumni coming back and what he’s doing, it’s a chance to show the kids what hard work looks like,” Millennium coach Lamar Earlry said. “He’s been a good role model in our community. He’s spoken to our program since the spring.”
