SCOTTSDALE – Rodney Carl Stassen of Scottsdale, AZ and formerly of St. Paul, MN, peacefully passed away on October 4, 2018. He was born April 15th, 1921, to Frank and Carrie (Marks) Stassen and grew up on the west side of St. Paul, graduating from Humboldt High School.

The majority of his working career he worked for the Northweste­rn Bell Telephone Company and held many positions. He met Lucille Saari while visiting the Duluth office. Rod and Lou were married in 1950 and moved to Virginia, MN. They moved a few times within MN, but landed in St. Paul, where they raised their family. Rod was active in the Jesters, Kiwanis, and St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. He loved music and playing the piano.

They moved to Scottsdale, AZ in 1981. They lived in a community with many people that had migrated from St. Paul. He filled his time with part time work as a census taker, claims adjuster with Prudential, and driving school bus for the Scottsdale district. In Arizona he golfed, attended Ascension Lutheran Church in Paradise Valley, and made new friends.

In 2016 he and Lou moved to Atria Park of Sierra Pointe, a senior community. They lived, and were cared for, at Sierra Pointe until the end of their lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carolyn, and wife.

He is survived by daughter Jean (John) Bowen, Princeton, MN, son Lee (Barbara)Stassen, Daphne, AL, grandchild­ren Jacy (Sarad) Shrestha, St. Michael, MN, Cass (Kayla)Bowen, Duluth, MN , John Stassen, Overland Park, KS, and Joe Stassen, Daphne, AL, great grandchild­ren Cyrus and Judah Shrestha, Sage and Birch Bowen.

A celebratio­n of Rod’s life will be held Wednesday, October 24th, 2018, 4 pm, at Atria Park of Sierra Pointe , 14500 Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ 85260, refreshmen­ts to follow.
