Meghan McCain birthday wish: Donations for cancer research

- Rachel Leingang

It’s Meghan McCain’s birthday today, and her wish is for a cure to the disease that killed her father.

Meghan McCain tweeted Monday that for her 34th birthday, all she wants is “a cure for glioblastoma so no family has to go through what mine did.”

The late U.S. Sen. John McCain died at age 81 on Aug. 25. He was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, in July 2017.

In her tweet, Meghan McCain asked people who felt like celebrating her birthday to donate to the Translational Genomics Research Institute in Phoenix.

TGen is raising money to establish an endowed chair in brain cancer research named for John S. McCain III.

“I love & miss you so much Dad,” Meghan

McCain concluded.

Meghan McCain and her father were close, and she has publicly expressed her grief several times since his death. She delivered a eulogy for him at Washington National Cathedral.

When she returned to her co-hosting gig at ABC’s “The View” earlier this month, she praised her father for raising her to be tough.

“Almost to my detriment, I am so tough ... and I realized he made me this tough so I would survive this,” she said. “And because maybe he knew that there would be a time that he wouldn’t be here . ... Really it is the only thing that is keeping me right now, is how tough he made me.”
