What we know now about the state’s close contests.

In Arizona, it’s traditional to wait for days for the outcome of tight races.

As of Friday night, The Arizona Republic estimated there were more than 360,000 ballots statewide yet to be counted from Tuesday’s election. More than 2 million ballots have been counted.

At 5 p.m. Friday, Maricopa County released the results for more than 79,000 previously uncounted ballots.

Here are some of the key races still in doubt:

Arizona secretary of state

Republican businessman Steve Gaynor has held a lead over Democrat Katie Hobbs since Tuesday, but the lead has been shrinking. Gaynor, a businessman, leads Hobbs, the Arizona Senate minority leader, by 10,609 votes.

Arizona superintendent of public instruction

Democrat Kathy Hoffman was ahead of Republican Frank Riggs, with 31,886 votes separating them on Friday. Riggs, a charter-school development executive, held a slim lead over Hoffman, a school speech therapist, from Tuesday night until Thursday evening.

Arizona Corporation Commission

Democrat Sandra Kennedy moved ahead of Republican Rodney Glassman in the race for two seats on the Arizona Corporation Commission. Republican Justin Olson is the leading vote-getter. Kennedy is 1,672 votes ahead of Glassman. This is the tightest statewide race at the moment.
