MESA – Jan C. Meyer, 81, passed away on November 10, 2018. She was born in St Johns, MI on July 19, 1937, to the late Harold and Ruth Bachman. She grew up in Whiting, IN and pursued a teaching degree at Ball State University, where she met her then husband John Meyer. She raised three children while touring the world as an Air Force spouse. Jan had a passion for antiques and took a job at an antique store in Omaha, NE, offered to her since she was there so often. Upon her husband’s retirement, her family moved to Fort Wayne, IN where she joined the work force full time at Kennedy National Life Insurance Company. Jan later relocated to Sun City, AZ on her own and worked for Southwest Risk until her retirement. Jan spent her life serving others whether it was helping out a friend, raising her children, using her teaching skills to assist Japanese students learn English, taking care of her mom, or assisting any individual who needed support or advocacy. Her love, honesty, and kindness served as an example to her children, who were the love of her life and whom she considered her best achievemen­ts. Jan was very creative and enjoyed doing various crafts and writing poetry or children’s stories. Throughout her life she bowled, golfed, played euchre or bridge, or just enjoyed the company of her many friends or family. She was deeply loved and admired, and will truly be missed by all that knew her. Jan is survived by her daughters; Marjorie Meyer (Glen Jones) of Mesa, AZ and Sharon Roberts (Randy) of Hoagland, IN; son John Meyer of Mesa, AZ; grandchild­ren; Brandon Miller and Vivian Miller; great-grandson David Miller; and sister Marjorie (George) Kaminsky. Jan will be laid to rest at Naperville Cemetery in Naperville, IL alongside her beloved father. Memorial contributi­ons can be made to American Cancer Society in her name. – James E. Phillips, of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018. Born to Thelma Lee and Walter Tuley Phillips on October 23, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri, the family moved to Phoenix in 1950. Jim was an ASNT Level III in nondestruc­tive testing at the beginning of his career and the CEO of Easy Grammar Systems for the last 25 years. Jim is survived by his wife, Wanda, daughter Jenny and two sons Peter (Kelli) and Micah (Hanna) and sister Nancy (Dareyl) Watkins. Jim’s grandchild­ren, Parker Victoria, Royal James and Silas James, called him “Poppa”. Jim was interred during a private tribute at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, where he was honored for his service in the U.S. Navy Constructi­on Battalion, also referred to as the “Seebees”.
