The Wolverines were two victories away from their first conference championship since 2004 and a trip to the College Football Playoff, facing an Ohio State team that has looked discombobulated on defense and one-dimensional on offense much of the season.

No. 15 Penn State 38, Maryland 3: Trace McSorley completed 12 of 22 passes for 230 yards and had a hand in three touchdowns to help Penn State rout visiting Maryland.

McSorley added 64 rushing yards on 11 carries for the Nittany Lions (9-3, 6-3 Big Ten, No. 12 CFP).

No. 20 Northwestern 24, Illinois 16: Clayton Thorson accounted for three touchdowns, Isaiah Browser rushed for 166 yards on 18 carries and Northwestern beat visiting Illinois for its seventh straight Big Ten win.

Thorson completed 12 of 18 passes for 110 yards and two TDs.

He also ran for a score.

Purdue 28, Indiana 21: Purdue’s David Blough threw three more touchdown passes, receiver Rondale Moore scored twice and tied a school record with his seventh 100-yard game of the season Saturday to lead the Boilermakers to a victory at rival Indiana.

By reclaiming the Old Oaken Bucket for the second straight year, Purdue (6-6, 5-4) also became bowleligible in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2011-12.

Minnesota 37, Wisconsin 15: Demetrius Douglas returned a punt 69 yards for a touchdown, Minnesota’s defense held up on the road and the Golden Gophers ran away from host Wisconsin to snap a 14game losing streak in the rivalry and reclaim Paul Bunyan’s Axe.

Mohamed Ibrahim ran for 121 yards and a 10-yard touchdown run on 26 carries for Minnesota (6-6, 3-6 Big Ten), which became bowl eligible for the first time under second-year coach P.J. Fleck.

Michigan State 14, Rutgers 10: Cody White scored on a 22-yard end-around with 3:57 to play, and host Michigan State edged Rutgers, handing the Scarlet Knights their 11th straight loss.

The Spartans (7-5, 5-4 Big Ten) trailed 10-7 when William Przystup’s punt pinned Rutgers (1-11, 0-9) back at its own 1-yard line with 5:23 remaining.

The Scarlet Knights eventually had to punt, and Michigan State took over at the Rutgers 35.
