GreenPal, an ‘Uber-like’ yard service, launches in Phoenix

- Derek Hall

Maintaining a healthy lawn in Phoenix can be a daunting task, and many homeowners turn to the experts for their lawn care needs.

An app that launched in Phoenix in October could make finding the right professional for the job a little easier.

GreenPal, founded in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2012, connects homeowners with local lawn professionals through its online service.

Co-founder Gene Caballero described it as “Uber for lawn care.”

“I kind of grew up in the landscaping industry in high school and college, and I saw the inefficiencies in the industry,” Caballero said.

Homeowners can download GreenPal’s app or visit the company’s website to sign up and list their lawns and the date they’d like service.

Prescreened, local lawn pros bid on those jobs, and homeowners chose whom to hire based on price and vendor ratings.

The entire transaction, including payment, is done through the app.

“Since there’s no need for a homeowner to meet a vendor now,” Caballero said. “It makes it all a lot easier.”

Eli Hall, owner of AMS Landscaping in Glendale, said he’s getting used to the service but sees the potential.

“I haven’t had much luck with it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great opportunity,” Hall said. “It’s really new for me.”
