Valdosta State beats Ferris for Div. II title
MCKINNEY, Texas – Rogan Wells broke tied an NCAA Division II championship game record with five touchdown passes and Valdosta State won its fourth national title with a 49-47 victory over Ferris State on Saturday.
Ferris’ rally from an 11-point deficit fell short when Jevon Shaw’s two-point conversion pass sailed wide of Keyondre Craig at the back of the end zone with 1:37 left.
John and Little John Daly lead Father-Son Challenge
ORLANDO, Fla. – John and Little John Daly birdied the final six-holes for a 13-under 59 and a one-stroke lead Saturday in the PNC Father-Son Challenge.
The Dalys played the back nine in 8-under 28 in occasional rain at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Grande Lakes. Little John is 15.
“It was just one of those days,” John Daly said. “We hit pretty much every fairway. We didn’t get ourselves in any trouble. After the third hole, Little John was putting good and he said, ‘I should go first to give him the line.’ I just made everything. It was a lot of fun”.
Jamieson takes 1-shot lead into last round in South Africa
MALELANE, South Africa – Scott Jamieson will take a one-shot lead into the final round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship after a 68 on Saturday moved him to 11 under overall and ahead of overnight leader David Lipsky.
Jamieson’s only European Tour win also came in South Africa, at the Nelson Mandela Championship six years ago, and he has had a string of top-10 finishes in the country.
Indians send 1B Alonso to White Sox for OF Call
CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Indians have made another offseason move, trading first baseman Yonder Alonso to the Chicago White Sox.
Cleveland gets 24-year-old outfielder Alex Call in a deal made official Saturday. Call has yet to make his major league debut. The Indians also rid themselves of Alonso’s entire $8 million salary for 2019.
It’s been a busy week for the three-time AL Central champions, who traded slugger Edwin Encarnacion and infielder Yandy Diaz and re-acquired first baseman Carlos Santana in a three-team trade on the final day of the winter meetings in Las Vegas.
Eagles’ Wentz officially out
PHILADELPHIA – Carson Wentz’s back injury will sideline him for Sunday’s game at the Los Angeles Rams.
With the Eagles’ No. 1 quarterback out, Nick Foles gets another opportunity to rescue the team he led to a Super Bowl victory last season.
