SCOTTSDALE – Joseph R. Burkett, passed on January 1st, 2019. Son, Brother, Father, Grandfathe­r, and beloved Husband, Joe was true north. He loved quietly but profoundly and thought deeply about what mattered, being responsibl­e, contributi­ng to others and being dedicated to always learning and searching. His love of travel, the Native American Tribes, the study of ancient tribes in Arizona and scuba diving were some of his many interests and loves. He is survived by his brother David Burkett and family, his wife Linda and son’s Andrew and Todd. He loved his family and cherished his beloved granddaugh­ter Hannah. Joe served in the Army and was stationed in Korea for 2 years. He was an engineer of amazing talent, building software systems and early on helped build one of Motorola’s original mainframes that still is maintained today. Joe was born in Dimmitt, Texas, attended University of Texas. and fell in love with Arizona after the service. Joe will be missed by all who truly knew him. With enduring love and respect we say our goodbye for now, until we meet again Joe. Love your family & friends. Services will be held at 1pm Wed. Feb. 20, 2019 at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Arrangemen­ts entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary.
