PHOENIX – Charlene

Schmich, 89 of Phoenix, passed away on 01/01/2019. Charlene was born in Wichita, KS and was raised in the small mining town of Ray, AZ. She graduated with a B.A. in Education from the UofA in 3 years so she could marry the love of her life, Larry. She taught at Loma Linda in Phoenix and then became a stay at home mom beginning in 1955. When the kids got older she worked as a substitute teacher at Monte Vista School. Charlene touched many lives over the years, but the most important were the lives of her family. Charlene’s faith gave her comfort in knowing she “had a beautiful place just waiting for her”. She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Larry. Charlene is survived by her children Mark, Laurie, and Larry (Margaret), grandchildren Melanie (Nathan) Fritz, Melissa (Morgan) Sarager, Samantha, Jake, and great-grandchildren Stella, Emmie, Kate, Mason, and Evelyn. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 19th at 11 am at The Bridge United Methodist Church, 4900 E. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85018. Charlene requested that “everyone wear colorful clothes, this is a celebration of life, live it with a smile and love of God.” In lieu of flowers, a contribution to Arizona Recreation Center for the Handicapped (ARCH), The Bridge UMC, or Hospice of the Valley would be greatly appreciated.
