HOUSTON, TX. – William Patrick Mahoney III died peacefully on October 28, 2018 in his home in Houston, Texas, surrounded by family. He was 71. Born into a pioneering Arizona family in Phoenix, Bill was the eldest of nine siblings. His early years were shaped by family involvemen­t in politics, specifical­ly, his father’s ambassador­ship to the West African country of Ghana during the Kennedy administra­tion. Bill attended Achimota, a historic and renowned secondary school that produced generation­s of African leaders. He graduated with honors and completed his senior year at Canterbury School in New Milford, Connecticu­t. The University of Notre Dame was the highlight of Bill’s academic endeavors. He received dual degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineerin­g and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy.

Bill was an accomplish­ed sportsman. He played football at Notre Dame, excelled at baseball, golf, and scuba diving, and enjoyed the camaraderi­e of his motorcycle club and his classic Porsche cars. His successful profession­al career, working for Lummus, Fluor, Kellogg and KBR engineerin­g companies, took him to many parts of the world.

Bill was a wise, loyal presence to friends and family. He enriched our lives immeasurab­ly and he will be greatly missed. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Chulee, his son, Patrick, and his siblings: Gladys, Mary, Richard, Eileen, Lawrence, Emmet, Noel and Sheila, and numerous nieces and nephews. A private memorial service was held on January 12, 2019, in Phoenix.
