PHOENIX – Born in Kansas City, Missouri to Don and Pauline Carlson, Gloria or “Sue” as she preferred to be called, attended Central High School where she was President of the Latin Club and would meet the love of her life Norman Higgins in 1956. She moved to Syracuse with her young family in 1966 and worked at the Seven Seas Salad Dressing Factory helping to put her husband through the Ph.D program at Syracuse University and care for her young family.

She moved to Tempe in 1968 where Norman took a 20 year teaching position at Arizona State University. She was a devoted Mother leading her daughters Girl Scout Troop on adventures and excursions in Arizona.

Sue loved sports, played tennis and rooted for Jimmy Connors and Pete Rose in the 1970’s. She spent countless hours watching her kids participat­e in sports and she was always a classy fan and an ideal parent supporter of coaches and teammates. Her cookies and pies were world-class.

During the 1980’s she worked at Diamonds Department Store where she balanced the stores books and counted the cash. She was an honest, loyal and accurate employee that they count on for over 20 years. She also worked at the Ticketing Box Office when the store was purchased by Dillard’s and could secure first row seats to any concert or event which her kids took full advantage of. In the 1990’s Sue was a loving and caring Grand Mother to her five Grand Children Tyler, Katie, Calvin, Shannan and Ellie watching them all one day a week and “Doing whatever they wanted to do”. During the 1990’s she traveled the southwest with her daughter Kelly. She will be remembered for her love of life and giving ways. A memorial service will be scheduled in May.
