SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Abigail Converse, Phoenix Xavier College Prep, Beach Volleyball Abigail “Abby” Converse is a member of the Division I state champion Xavier Prep beach volleyball team. The Gators junior “threes” pair partner is equally triumphant in the sand and classroom. Converse holds a 4.5 GPA, 1550 SAT score and 790 SAT II score in biology. Her favorite classes are AP Chemistry and AP Biology. She is planning to major in molecular biology in college and is a teaching assistant for biology. Converse was one of fifty students selected from across the nation in March to be a National Youth Advocate for the YMCA working in connection to U.S. House and Senate members on issues affecting youth such as daycare funding and after school programs for the disadvantaged. She is also a member of the Model Legislature - Youth in Government, National Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta - Mathematics Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society, and is a STEM Mentor advising and coaching middle school students for Girls Have IT Camp. “This school year, I have had to keep a very tight schedule but I have been able to balance it all by turning even the smallest free moments into productive study time,” Converse said. “Whether its audiobooks on the car ride to practice or getting ahead during lunch and break time on days with two practices, being able to succeed academically has always been about managing my time.”
