‘Avengers: Endgame’

Marvel wraps up the “Avengers” saga (but not its expanded cinematic universe) in a three-hour collision of apocalypti­c angst, sophomoric humor and enough superheroe­s to require a flowchart. Plenty of action, comedy and Easter eggs, but really, we’ve seen it all before. (PG-13 — 181 minutes) P, V.

‘Breakthrou­gh’ (Not reviewed):

Faith-based drama about a family finding strength in prayer when their teen son (Marcel Ruiz) faces possible death. (PG — 90 minutes)

‘Captain Marvel’

The latest Marvel adventure has girl power to spare, but the end result is less than the sum of its parts. (PG-13 — 124 minutes) P, V.

‘The Chaperone’

Haley Lu Richardson is terrific as Louise Brooks in a “Downton Abbey”heavy film (both cast and crew). What should be intriguing is instead stilted and dull. (Not rated — 103 minutes)

‘The Curse of La Llorona’

Mediocre horror tale spins off the Mexican legend of a weeping woman searching for the souls of children and moves it to 1973 Los Angeles. (R — 93 minutes) V.

‘Dumbo’

Director Tim Burton brings a liveaction remake of Disney’s baby circus elephant with oversized ears that can fly and charm hearts. (PG — 112 minutes)

‘El Chicano’

Brian Hernandez Bray’s film misses its shot as a Mexican-American superhero origin story. Raúl Castillo plays an LA cop drawn by his past to become the mythical hero of the title. But the storytelli­ng and direction are muddled and confused. (R — 107 minutes) P, V.

‘Hail Satan?’

A wily, entertaini­ng documentar­y about the Satanic Temple that acts as a civics lesson about the separation of church and state. (R — 95 minutes) P, N.

A couple moves into a secluded home that the previous owner just can’t seem to let go of. Emptyheade­d thriller in which pretty people do stupid things. (PG-13 — 102 minutes) P, V, S. ‘Little’ A highpowere­d businesswo­man (Regina Hall) magically turns 13 years old. Predictabl­e, but funny. (PG-13 — 109 minutes)

‘Long Shot’

A romance develops between a presidenti­al candidate (Charlize Theron) and her speechwrit­er (Seth Rogen). (R— 125 minutes) P, D, S.

Mahesh Babu stars in an action thriller. (Not rated — 176 minutes)

‘The Mustang’

A prisoner (Matthias Schoenaert­s) finds purpose in training a wild mustang for the Wild Horse Inmate Program. A meditative and moving drama. (R — 96 minutes) P, V, D.

‘Penguins’

Endearing documentar­y from Disneynatu­re about Steve, an awkward yet relatable Adélie penguin. Film captures both the wonder of Antarctica and the drama of the everyday life of penguins. (G — 76 minutes)

‘Pokémon Detective Pikachu’

Tim (Justice Smith) travels to Ryme City where he meets a caffeine-addicted talking Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds) that helps him discover secrets surroundin­g his father’s mysterious death. (PG — 104 minutes).

‘Poms’ (Not reviewed):

A group of women start a cheer squad at their retirement community. (PG-13 — 91 minutes). P.

‘Red Joan’

British spy Joan Stanley (Judi Dench) is a Soviet and communist party sympathize­r who becomes employed as a British government civil servant and recruited by the KGB in the1930’s. (R — 101 minutes) N, S.

‘Shadow’

Yimou Zhang’s latest film is a gorgeously violent story of duality, with a terrific performanc­e by Chao Deng as a military leader and his double. It starts slow, but it’s worth the wait. (Not rated — 116 minutes)

‘Shazam!’

A 14-year-old foster kid magically transforms into a superhero in the latest comic-book offering from DC Films. (PG-13 — 132 minutes) P, V.

‘Student of the Year 2’ (Not reviewed):

A college student must overcome challenges to be named Student of the Year. Sequel to the 2012 hit. (Not rated — 112 minutes)

‘Tolkien’

Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins star in a film about famed “Lord of The Rings” author J.R.R. Tolkien’s early life in England, where he meets a group of fellow young artists and writers and find inspiratio­n and friendship in the group. (PG-13 — 112 minutes). V.

‘UglyDolls’ (Not reviewed):

Misfit dolls confront what it means to be different in an animated tale for the family. (PG — 87 minutes)

‘Us’

Lupita Nyong’o is brilliant in Jordan Peele’s horror film that tackles class division. (R — 116 minutes) V, P.

‘The White Crow’

Ralph Fiennes film tells the story of the early life of Rudolf Nureyev (Oleg Ivenko), the brilliant Soviet dancer who defected to the West. It’s compelling, but plays like two films clumsily joined. (R — 127 minutes) N, P, S.
