Laughter amid tears: Comedian Chelsea Handler copes with grief
Comedian talks life, death and everything in between
There’s a lot of funny stuff going on this week. In addition to Chelsea Handler, who is headlining at Comerica Theatre on Friday, there are plenty of other people around town who are performing with the goal of making you laugh. Here’s a look at some of them.
Kyle Dunnigan
The actor and stand-up performs four sets over two nights at Tempe Improv. Dunnigan was a writer and performer on “Inside Amy Schumer” (he got an Emmy nomination for a song he wrote for the show) and appeared in Schumer’s film “Trainwreck.” He also played Craig Pullin on the great “Reno 911.”
Details: 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday, May 31; 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 1. $20. Tempe Improv, 930, E. University Drive. $22. 480-921-9877, tempeimprov.com.
Kountry Wayne
Chelsea Handler is one funny person, but she delves into some dark topics in her latest book, “Life Will Be the Death of Me: . . . and You Too!” She talks about the book and the show that she’s bringing to Comerica Theatre this Friday in a wideranging conversation.
The popular comedian brings his stand-up act to Stand Up Live. Look for bits involving his nine kids (and their several mothers) — he called one tour his “Child Support Tour.” (This one is the “Drip Tour.”) Wayne Colley (his real name) is big on social media, where he has 4 million followers across several platforms. He’ll do three sets over two days.
