Miami S Jones reports for minicamp

-

DAVIE, Fla. – Two-time Pro Bowl safety Reshad Jones reported Tuesday to the Miami Dolphins’ mandatory mini-camp after skipping earlier voluntary offseason practices.

Jones, the team’s highest-paid player at $13 million this year, was on the field for the first of this week’s three workouts under first-year coach Brian Flores.

“It’s great to see him,” Flores said. “He looks like he’s in really good shape.”

Flores has said Jones’ recovery from offseason shoulder surgery was one of several factors in his decision to miss the earlier practices.

There has been speculation the Dolphins want to trade the 31-year-old Jones as part of their rebuilding effort. They also have veteran safety T.J. McDonald, and 2018 first-round draft pick Minkah Fitzpatrick and veteran Bobby McCain can play safety or cornerback.

Flores has made no guarantees about playing time for Jones, a starter since 2011.

“He has a lot of experience and could play a lot of roles for us,” Flores said.

Jones’ role was an issue last year under coach Adam Gase. Jones took himself out of a midseason game against the New York Jets and watched the second half from the sideline, unhappy with a plan to rotate safeties.

Calf injury to cost Luck another week of Colts practice: Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck will miss his third week of offseason workouts because of a strained calf.

Coach Frank Reich would not say Tuesday whether Luck will return for next week’s three-day minicamp.

Reich has said the Colts are playing it safe. He has said Luck would practice and play if the injury had occurred during the regular season.

Reich also announced that center Javon Patterson will miss the entire season after suffering a torn ACL. Patterson was a seventh-round draft pick, No. 246 overall, out of Mississippi.

Browns RB Johnson still desires trade, where he’s ‘wanted’: Browns running back Duke Johnson says he still wants to be traded.

Johnson, who demanded to be dealt in the offseason after Cleveland signed free agent Kareem Hunt, said Tuesday he only wants to be “somewhere I’m wanted.”

when he learned the Browns had been shopping him around after signing Hunt, who won’t be eligible to play until serving an eight-game NFL suspension.

Johnson skipped the team’s voluntary offseason programs in protest, but he’s reported for the Browns’ three-day mandatory minicamp. He said while his feelings have not changed, he intends to act professionally while on the roster.

Johnson said he showed loyalty by signing a contract extension last year after enduring 1-15 and 0-16 seasons, but the team hasn’t treated him the same way.

Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield didn’t defend Johnson, saying “you’re either on the train or you’re not.”

Lions start minicamp with Slay, Harrison staying away: The Detroit Lions started their mandatory minicamp without two standouts on defense.

Two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay and defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison were not with their teammates Tuesday.
