Arizona Storytellers to share joys and pains of ‘Adulting’

- Elizabeth Montgomery

Mackenzie Saunders had to learn how to navigate life after being paralyzed from the waist down at age 11.

A decade later, Saunders is learning to navigate life her own way.

“My story is about becoming an adult by embracing who I am and what I can do,” she said.

“Telling my story is my way of expressing my gratitude for how truly lucky I’ve been in my life.”

Saunders and four other people will share stories about their growing pains at the Arizona Storytellers “Adulting” show on Aug. 13 at Crescent Ballroom.

Megan Finnerty, founder of the Storytellers Project will host the evening.

“We all have things we can do, and we all have things we can’t do; be proud of what you can do, and always remember that you are valuable,” Saunders said. Tellers joining Saunders include:

❚ Weldon Johnson, who will share a story of how he found out some things are not always as they seem.

❚ Diana Dinshaw, who will take us to those moments she realized she was no longer a child.

❚ Sandy Oglesby, who learned how complex adulting can be after marriage.

❚ Kathy Nakagawa, who will share the trials and tribulations of adulting as a parent.
