Wofford pulls off stunner against UNC
Wofford 68, No. 17 North Carolina 64: Wofford traveled to Chapel Hill and shocked a ranked North Carolina team again, getting 19 points from Trevor Stumpe and riding a 16-0 run in the second half to a win over the host Tar Heels on Sunday. Storm Murphy added 15 points and Messiah Jones had 13 points for the Terriers (7-4), who went on the road to beat North Carolina (6-4) for the second time in three years.
Wofford, a 12-point underdog, made four 3-pointers during its decisive spurt, a 6-minute stretch in which the Tar Heels missed 10 consecutive shots.
Garrison Brooks had 17 points and 12 rebounds for North Carolina in its first regular-season game at Carmichael Arena since Jan. 4, 1986.
Brandon Robinson added a careerhigh 16 points for the Tar Heels, who lost their third straight game. They cut Wofford’s lead to 65-61 with 51.5 seconds remaining but got no closer.
North Carolina played without starters Cole Anthony (right knee) and Leaky Black (sprained right foot).
Minnesota 84, No. 3 Ohio State 71:
Marcus Carr scored a career-high 35 points and Daniel Oturu had 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Minnesota toppled undefeated and third-ranked Ohio State for coach Richard Pitino’s first win against a top-five team.
No 1 Stanford 71, Ohio State 52: Haley Jones had 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in helping host Stanford beat Ohio State (6-4).
No. 5 South Carolina 85, Purdue 49: Destanni Henderson scored 15 points, and host South Carolina (10-1) used a strong defensive effort to rout Purdue (7-3).
No. 7. Louisville 67, No. 14 Kentucky
66: Kylie Shook scored five consecutive points to put Louisville ahead, and the visiting Cardinals withstood a late charge by Kentucky.
The Cardinals (10-1) rallied from a 55-45 third-quarter deficit with a 13-0 run entering the fourth and led 62-57. Kentucky (10-1) tied it on Rhyne Howard’s jumper. Shook answered that and a second jumper by Howard with a medium shot and a 3 for a three-point edge.
No.8. Florida State 74, St. John’s 70: Nausia Woolfolk scored a seasonhigh 25 points, Kiah Gillespie had 13 points and 13 rebounds, and host Florida State (10-0) held off St. John’s (6-4).
No. 9. N.C. State 62, Elon 49: Elissa Cunane scored 28 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as North Carolina State (10-) overcame a sluggish opening three quarters to defeat Elon
No. 10 UCLA 68, Pacific 47: Japreece Dean and Michaela Onyenwere each scored 19 points and Charisma Osborne added 17 to lead host UCLA (9-) over Pacific (6-3).
