Simba just can’t wait to be king of your heart
Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.
Each week, The Arizona Republic highlights a handful of the many pets up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.
Simba
Sweet Simba just can’t wait to be king … of his future forever home! The adorable 3-year-old Chinese Sharpei mix may be new to the Arizona Humane Society, but he is not new to the shelter world. This sweet pup was transferred to AHS through its Project Reach Out program, which collaborates with other animal welfare organizations around the Valley to bring in pets when their shelters are overflowing, if space allows at AHS. This program helps alleviate pressure for other shelters and allows both organizations to continue saving as many pets in need as possible.
The adorable Simba lived his life as a stray prior to being rescued and ultimately transferred to AHS, so much of his history is a mystery. But in the short amount of time Simba has been at AHS, he has shown that he has a huge personality with a lot of energy to spare. The perfect mix of active and chill, the top of this boy’s to-do list is to romp around, go on walks, play an awesome game of fetch and then to be the perfect little 47pound teddy bear while showing off how much of a snuggle expert he is.
Due to his level of energy, it is recommended that Simba go to a home with children at least 8 years and older. Additionally, AHS encourages anyone with other pups in the home to bring them down for a meet-and-greet.
How to adopt: Simba will be available today at noon at the Arizona Humane Society’s Campus for Compassion, 1521 W. Dobbins Road in Phoenix. His adoption fee includes his neuter surgery, current vaccinations, a microchip and a free follow-up wellness exam with a VCA Animal Hospital.
