Temperatures expected to fall into 30s; freeze warning issued
A freeze warning was in effect Saturday night for communities in the north Phoenix and Glendale areas, the Cave Creek and New River area and in Deer Valley, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix.
Temperatures in those areas were expected to drop into the low 30s as a storm that brought rain and snow across Arizona exits east out of the state, the Weather Service said.
A Weather Service forecast said “the coldest temperatures of this winter season so far are likely across much of south-central Arizona.”
The warning remains in effect through 9 a.m. today.
Meteorologists advised residents to cover plants as frost and freeze conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and it can possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Daytime temperatures today will be in the 50s for the Phoenix area, reaching the low 60s possibly by Tuesday.
According to the forecast, low temperatures tonight will be in the mid- to upper 30s and in the 40s on Monday and Tuesday.
In northern Arizona, snow showers were expected to continue southeast of Flagstaff to the White Mountains, ending by late Saturday evening, the Weather Service reported.
Localized heavy snow and showers remained possible.
In Flagstaff, temperatures Saturday night were expected to drop into single digits. Daytime temperatures today through Tuesday will be in the low 30s. Overnight lows will be in the mid- to low teens with a 10% chance of snow showers Monday night.
