GLENDALE – Gordon Lee Jones passed away on December 26, 2019 at the age of 81 surrounded by his family. After two surgeries and complicati­ons with circulatio­n, the Lord took him home. Gordy was born on July 2, 1938 in Iowa City, Iowa to parents Marion and Everett Jones and sister Shirley Jones of Cedar Rapids. He is survived by his wife Christine Jones, sons Tim, Terry, Tracy, Tony and daughter-in-laws Debbie, Kimberly and Viki and grandchild­ren Corinne, Corbin, Shelby, Cassidy, Brody and Brian and great grandson Greyston. Gordy graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids and was all-state in football and wrestling. He joined the Marines with his best friend Terry Fox & proudly played football for the Marine Corps. He married his wife Chris after courting for only 11 months and together they shared 59 1/2 marvelous years. Gordy graduated from Northwest Electronic­s in Minneapoli­s just before Sperry Flight Systems hired him and moved him to Phoenix. He graduated from GCC and then continued his studies at ASU. Besides being a supervisor with top security clearance for his career, he was a coach for baseball and football. He also umpired for Sperry leagues as well as Arizona Girls Softball. He was a proud Cub Scout leader and in his retirement years, Gordy enjoy delivering pizza for Pizza Hut. Gordy and his wife were world travelers and truly toured all over the world—more than once. They also were avid campers making sure they brought their boys to vacation in San Diego and Mexico each year for more than 40 years. They’re camping adventures not only brought them memories, but allowed them to meet many, many friends that are still cherished today. Gordy lived life to the fullest. Being a season ticket holder, he enjoyed 45 years of ASU football games as he loved, loved football. He also favored spending time with his family camping, sailing fishing, and playing with his beloved Dobermans Maggie and Molly. Gordy will always be known as a genuine, completely selfless, thoughtful, loving man who would do absolutely anything for anyone, especially his wife and his children. Gordy was a class act who gracefully taught his four boys how to take care of family all while doting on the love of his life. He was deeply admired by all who knew him as a passionate, caring, witty, charming, charismati­c, sassy, singing, storytelli­ng husband, father and grandpa who will be dearly missed forever...Services will be held on January 11 at 1:00 at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, 200 W. Beardsley, Phoenix, AZ 85027 with a reception to follow at Lutheran Church of the Master located at 2340 W. Cactus Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85029.
