The Barrett-Jackson car auction is celebratin­g its 49th season in 2020 and it’s still going strong.

The nine-day event at WestWorld of Scottsdale has establishe­d itself as one of the premier car auctions in the country. More than 1,800 vehicles will be up for sale during this year’s event. Collectors on site and remote bid on an incredible array of cars, trucks and other vehicles that are wheeled onstage. You’ll see exotic vehicles and beautifull­y restored American classics. There will be family cruisers for sale along with souped-up hot rods and all sorts of other vehicles. But you don’t need to be a collector or car enthusiast to enjoy the show. There are plenty of activities to keep the whole family busy. Here’s what you need to know if you’re going to the Barrett-Jackson auto auction from Jan. 11 to 19.

Preview weekend

Be among the first to see the cars on display before the auction gets going and check out the activities that are available. Many of the family-friendly events and exhibits get started during preview weekend.

Details: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12.

Thrill rides, autographs and more

Aside from the car auctions, you don’t want to miss:

❚ Chevy, Dodge, Ford and Toyota thrill rides with profession­al drivers in the latest cars.

❚ Symposiums including “Talking Broncos With Nascar’s Ryan Blaney” and “Fast and Furious: Behind the Stunts.”

❚ An autograph session with drag racing pros Jason Line and Bo Butner.

❚ Live music daily.

Free admission for kids

If you’re looking to save money, come on the first Saturday. That’s QuikTrip Family Value Day and kids 12 and younger get in free.

Restoratio­n Row

Watch vehicles being built, including a Factory Five Barrett-Jackson Edition ’35 hot rod truck. There will be other activities as well.

Details: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily; 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12.

Automobili­a auction

Cars aren’t the only things for sale at Barrett-Jackson. The Automobili­a auction includes car-themed clothes, clocks, signs, toys and other items. Among the more interestin­g items in the no-reserve auction are a restored 1928 Gulf Oil gasoline pump, a 1968 Honda Mini Trail minibike, a couch made from a 1959 Cadillac rear end, and a 1966 rideon toy Corvette (still in the original box).

Details: 8:15 a.m.-2 p.m. MondayTues­day, Jan. 13-14. 8:15 a.m.-10 a.m.

Wednesday-Saturday, Jan. 15-18, 8:1511 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 19.

Food and drinks

The food selection at Barrett-Jackson is almost as varied as the types of vehicles up for auction.

Local restaurant­s and food trucks will be represente­d.

Adult beverages will be available for those looking to indulge.

What you can and can’t bring in

Security screening is in effect. Prohibited items include all weapons, video cameras, skateboard­s, drones, coolers and pets.

Patrons with disabiliti­es may bring their service animals. No outside food or beverages are allowed.

You may bring one sealed bottle of water less than 17 ounces.

New this year: Visitors who enter the auction site may carry only clutch purses no larger than 6.5 inches by 4.5 inches or clear bags no bigger than 12 by 12 inches (or a 1-gallon clear plastic freezer bag).

Parking and ride sharing

Parking is available just south of Bell Road between 94th and 98th streets. There’s shuttle service to and from the main gate. Valet parking also is available. There’s a designated drop-off point near the main entrance for those using Uber or Lyft.
