State champions highlight team

Here is The Arizona Republic’s All-Arizona girls soccer team and the eight finalists for Player of the Year, along with the rest of the best for the

2019-20 winter season. The Republic will announce the Player of the Year for each sport later this spring.

Samantha Anger, Queen Creek Casteel,

Sr., F

Casteel’s a fouryear captain who hasn’t missed a game since her freshman season. Anger led Casteel to a 16-2-1 record, a top seed in the 5A tournament and its second state title since 2018. She had 15 goals, seven assists and four game winners.

Jazmyn Brass, Gilbert Perry,

Jr., GK

Was third in the 6A conference for her 0.487 goals allowed average, had 89 saves, four penalty kicks allowed, and 13 shutouts in 19 games played with a 14-2-2 record.

Hannah Burke,

Gilbert Christian. Sr., F

Burke was second in the state for points (96), ranked fourth in goals scored (37), was fourth in the 3A conference in assists (22). She helped lead Gilbert Christian to its first state title in program history.

Cassandra Bych, Phoenix Desert Vista,

Sr., F

Tied for fourth in the 6A conference in goals scored

(19) and was seventh in points scored (42). Bych helped lead No. 4 Desert Vista to the semifinal round of the 5A playoffs and a 13-4-3 record.

Asia Hart, Chandler Hamilton, Sr.,

GK

Hart had 92 saves, 17 shutouts and allowed just seven goals in the regular season. She helped lead Hamilton to 15 shutout victories en route to its 6A championsh­ip appearance. She also led the conference in goals allowed average at 0.364, which was also the state’s sixth-highest in that category.

Mikella Reed, Gilbert Perry,

Sr., MF/F

One of the top offensive threats in the state, Reed was ranked among the top 10 players in 6A for points scored (45), goals (15), and had the second-highest assist total (15). She helped lead Perry to a 16-3-2 record and its No. 2 seed in the conference state playoffs quarterfin­als.

Rylee Rottweiler, Gilbert Campo

Verde, Sr., F

Campo Verde’s four-year varsity captain and among the best one-on-one players on this list. Rottweiler had 22 goals on 115 shots and nine assists in 21 games and led the second-seeded Coyotes to the quarterfin­al round in the 5A conference tournament.

Isabella Struckman, Scottsdale Chaparral, Sr., F

Struckman scored 20 goals, had 10 assists and ranked second in points scored in the 6A conference. She has won a state championsh­ip every year throughout her high school career and had a hat trick in the 6A state title match against Chandler Hamilton. Plus, she was one of the driving forces behind the Firebirds’ 21-1-3 record.
